Couch won't fit through the door? Use your angles.
The angleStand it on end, hook and pivot
Stand the couch on end, angle it so the seat faces the door frame, hook the top through the doorway, then pivot the bottom around. Using the couch's diagonal can get a 36-inch-deep couch through a 30-inch door.

How to do it
- Measure the door width and height, and the couch's depth, height and diagonal depth.
- Remove the door from its hinges and take off the couch legs and cushions.
- With two people, stand the couch upright on one end.
- Angle it so the back faces away and the seat faces the frame. Hook the top through first.
- Pivot it around the frame, swinging the bottom section through as you rotate.
Why it works
The couch's tightest dimension on a diagonal is often smaller than any straight-on dimension. Tilting and hooking lets the couch curl around the door frame instead of hitting it flat.
Questions
How do I measure the diagonal depth?
With the couch on its feet, measure from the top back corner to the front edge of the seat at an angle. That's often the number that decides whether it fits.
What if it still won't fit?
Try another door or window, check whether the arms or back come off, or call movers who do hoisting.
